Winning start for Miller Men
 |
| Andrew Miller - runs and wickets for Neyland skipper. |
Burton (96 all out) lost to Neyland (148 for 8).
Neyland made a good start to the new campaign as they made the short journey to Burton and came away with a comprehensive victory by 52 runs as skipper Andrew Miller led the way with runs and wickets.
Miller scored 15 alongside Paul Murray (26), Phil Sutton (28) and Nick Kooman (24 not out) after losing Henry Durrant for a duck as Johnnie Scale conceded only 16 runs in his 12 overs and there were wickets for Mark Griffiths (2 for 27) and James Venables (3 for 48).
Burton were quickly in trouble as Patrick Hannon shifted home skipper Mike Venables without scoring and trapped Chris Campbell LBW after Durrant bowled Richard Hayman. Gareth Bevan scored 23, including 16 off one Hannon over which still gave the bowler a final 2 for 29 alongside Phil Davies (2 for 31) and Gareth Lloyd (2 for 15).
There were stands of 30 between Gareth Bevan and James Venables, plus Martin James and Will Scriven as James struck 25 in the Burton cause before he was bowled by Andrew Miller, who ended up with a 3 for 11 haul which helped his side to their win and a healthy 29 points to kick-start their season.
